From the Portrait and Biographical Record of Sheboygan County, Wis., 1898:

Charles Imig, Page 712

CHARLES IMIG, who, like his brother Henry, is a pioneer merchant of Sheboygan, was born in Simmers, Prussia, Germany, October 1, 1840.  Until the emigration of the family to America, in 1851, he attended the schools of his native country, and after reaching his adopted city went to both public and private schools, receiving a good practical education.  From early boyhood he was trained to mercantile pursuits.  On the death of his father, Michael Imig, he, in partnership with his brother Henry, continued the business until 1891, when that partnership was dissolved.  Having rested about six months, Mr. Imig, not being able to endure retirement, again embarked in the same line of business in company with his son, Victor H., the firm becoming C. Imig & Son.  They do a good business, inasmuch as the name Imig has always been a synonym for honesty and fair dealing.

For a companion and helpmate our subject chose Miss Laura C. Stuebgen, who is a native of Erie, Pa., though her parents came from Saxony, Germany.  The wedding was celebrated in Sheboygan, December 29, 1864.  To this worthy couple have been born nine children.  Laura is the wife of Charles E. Vollrath, a well-known business man of the Evergreen City; Emma married Gustav Eckstein, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Victor H., who was educated in the Sheboygan schools, took a complete course in Mitchell's School for Cutting, of New York, and is now in partnership with his father; Flora is at home; Oscar is employed in the German Bank of Sheboygan; and Arthur, Julia, Valeska and Malitta are still under the parental roof.

Mr. Imig, as well as his wife, is a member of the Reformed Church of the United States.  He has served four years as a member of the City Council, being an unswerving Democrat in politics.  During his long business career he has become well known to the citizens of Sheboygan County, and by the exercise of foresight and good business qualities he has accumulated valuable property, being numbered among the substantial citizens of the county.
